A spectacular edge with our new spectrometer

Weco is focused on service excellence through continuous improvements, and therefore we have recently added a Thermo Scientific Niton XRF spectrometer to our Quality Assurance Department. The Thermo Scientific Niton is a spectrometer that offers superior detection limits and exceptionally fast measurement times. It allows us to get lab-quality results in our factory with no damage to the sample, and to analyse nearly every element in all types of metal alloys, including copper, stainless steels, nickels, cobalt and more. This also means we can now print our own certificates listing alloy grade and chemistry, in-house. Previously, we could send material to a lab to be analysed. This, however, would take 5 to 7 working days, plus transport time, and time waiting for reports to be issued from the lab. We can now determine material specifications and print the certificate in under 2 minutes, which means greater efficiency and accuracy in our Quality Assurance department and grea

Learning about Kaizen in Tokyo, Japan.

Weco (Pty) Ltd received an invitation from the Japanese Productivity Centre (JPC) to join them in Tokyo, Japan to learn more about the Japanese approach to 5s and Lean Manufacturing. We were afforded this opportunity because of the work we have done at our own factory and our membership with Productivity SA. The team was really excited to take this opportunity to learn how we can make even more changes in our factory and cut down on wastages and increase our productivity. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) were attentive hosts and Henry Gomes, our Technical Director had an insightful trip to Japan. He was joined by members of other African companies which turned out to be a fantastic networking and learning opportunity in itself. In Japan, they focus on 5s and Kaizen Manufacturing which focus on quality, cost, delivery, and service.
